CogAt Testing Next Week for Select Students

A Cognitive Abilities (CogAT) assessment will soon be given to all kindergarten and selected second graders throughout the Wawasee Community Schools to be considered for high-ability services for the 2017-18 school year.  The CogAT involves short multiple choice tests and it will be given in a group testing format. The CogAT is intended to provide general information about each student’s overall developed learning abilities. It is hoped the information will serve as one additional tool in meeting the varied needs of our high-ability students.  No grades will be taken on the test but students will be encouraged to give their best effort to provide accurate information regarding their abilities.  If you would like to opt your child out of this assessment, please contact our High Ability Coordinator, Lisa Ernsberger, lernsberger@wawasee.k12.in.us, as she can remove your child from the testing roster. Parents will be notified in writing if their child has been accepted to the high ability program by May.

Prodigygame.com

The kids have another fun website they can use to practice math skills.  It is called Prodigy.  The kids love it.  They get to collect treasure and “battle” other wizards in the game.  In order to do well, they have to answer math questions.  This is a game they can play at home or anywhere they have internet access.  Their username for the game is in their SeeSaw app.

Vegetable snack today

March 10, 2017

Since we’ve been learning about plants this week, I thought it a good idea to have some roots and stems for snack today. Ask your student if they know which is a root and which is a stem…

Plant experiment

March 9, 2017

We’re doing an experiment to see how water travels through a plant stem. We’re using celery stems and colored water. Hopefully we’ll see some changes in the plants by tomorrow.
