Writing Poetry

This week we started working on our last writing theme: poetry. The kids have been learning to write free verse. This type of poetry doesn’t require rhyming. In no time at all, the kids started writing amazing poems, some about everyday objects and some about their own thoughts and feelings. Good stuff, guys!

Poetry Reading
Monday, June 3

The students will get to share their poems at a special poetry reading on Monday, June 3. Everyone is invited to join us at 1:00 in the classroom for this really cool event.

Friday Afternoon

at the Park

We are taking a walking field trip up to Syracuse Lakeside Park next Friday afternoon. The kids will be able to play and have fun and we will come back to the school at the end of the day.

No Spelling Test

Next Week

Yesterday’s spelling test was the last spelling test of the school year. Yay!

Our final topic in math is geometry. We have been learning about solid figures like cubes and pyramids. The students have also learned about things like edges and vertices and angles.

Popcorn Party

The students have earned their 20th classroom Warrior Award this week, so next Friday they will get a big popcorn party. I will bring in the school’s popcorn machine and we’ll eat our fill of popcorn!
