Newsletter and Spelling List – Week of Sept. 9-13

September 6, 2013

Mr. Lucas Newsletter

Fri., Sept. 6, 2013

Readers Workshop

This week in Reader’s Workshop we learned about two important words: metacognition and schema. These words both deal with our thinking. Metacognition is “thinking about our thinking”, meaning paying attention to what we read and thinking about it. Schema is what we know, our background knowledge and it can be important in helping us understand what we read, too.

 Spelling

Next week’s list is on the back of this newsletter. Please note, the students will now have 14 words. This will be our regular number of words each week.

 Open House

Thanks to everyone who came to our open house last night. It was nice meeting all of you.

 Language Sentence

Starting with today’s spelling test, the students will also have a dictation sentence to write. I will say a sentence out loud with 2-3 spelling words. The students are to write the sentence, with proper capitals and period. I will grade this sentence on the correct spelling words and capitals and periods. This sentence will be a weekly language grade.

 Book Fair on Monday

Our class will be visiting the book fair on Monday morning. If you would like to send money in with your child that day, you can.
