Newsletter – Week of September 7-11
Mr. Lucas Newsletter
Fri., Sept. 4, 2015
On Monday, we took our first math test of the year, over addition. The students did really well! We’ve got some really smart math thinkers in our room. We then started our next unit on subtraction, which is what we’ll be working on for the next week or so.
We talked this week about “responding to reading” where the kids will begin to learn how to write about their reading in their notebook. They will write about their thinking while they read, writing about their favorite part of a book, or a prediction they will make about their book.
Please remember that we will not be having spelling tests this year. Our school system is changing how students practice words and language so for the time being we won’t have a regular spelling list. We will be working with words in class, just not having a spelling list and spelling test.
We will continue to work on personal narratives, stories the kids write about themselves. We are focusing on working on good illustrations this week.
