Newsletter – Week of October 5-9
Mr. Lucas Newsletter
Fri., Oct. 9, 2015
This week in Reader’s Workshop we spent a lot of time practicing a Reader’s Theatre play. Reader’s Theatre is where students practice reading a script aloud. They do not memorize it, but they do practice is over and over in order to practice reading fluently and with expression.
We have wrapped up learning about place value and we’re reviewing repeated addition for a short time. Soon we will start a big unit in second grade math: double-digit addition. This is a big,
important skill. Please make sure you are helping your student with their homework each night and checking their work to help them with their understanding.
We could use more donations for our classroom snack cupboard. I pass out snack daily to 15+ students. Things like cereal, animal crackers, etc. work great. Thanks for helping!
Thanks to everyone who came to Parent/Teacher Conferences this week. If I missed meeting with you, I would be glad to meet with you some day after school. Just send me a note and we’ll get a
time fixed up for you!
School Book Fair is Next Week
Our school PTO will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair next week here at school Monday through Wednesday. Our class has scheduled a time to visit the book fair on Tuesday morning. If you would like to send in money for your child to make a purchase, you can, but it is optional.
