Mr. Lucas Newsletter
Fri., Sept. 2, 2016

On Thursday, we took our first math test of the year, over addition.  I will be getting that graded soon to see how everyone did on their first test.  We will now start our next topic:  subtraction.  Any help you can give your student at home with practicing math facts would be very helpful.

Readers Workshop

We talked this week about thinking about their reading and using “thinking stems” where the kids will begin to learn how to write about their reading in their notebook or in SeeSaw.  Each week, they will write about their thinking while they read, writing about their favorite part of a book, or a prediction they will make about their book.

iPad Charging

Please remember to help keep the iPads charged each night.

Reading Homework

Students should be reading at least 10 minutes every night as their homework.  They can read regular books, books on their Epic app, Tumblebooks, or even have someone read to them.  Please remember to sign their reading log each night.  This log will go home on Monday night and should be returned signed on Friday.

Writer’s Workshop

We will continue to work on personal narratives, stories the kids write about themselves.  We are focusing on working on good illustrations this week.  We’ll also be talking about writing beginnings, middle and ends to stories.

Fundraiser Due Wednesday

Money and order forms are due on Wednesday, Sept. 7.  Please make sure the forms are filled out completely and that all the money is collected and included in the envelope.  Items will be delivered on Tue. Oct. 4.
