Reading Logs

Thanks to those of you who are supporting your student and helping to make sure they read at least 10 minutes every night.  This is great practice and a way to help students improve their reading.  Don’t forget, students who turn in their reading logs each week will get a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut at the end of the week.  Reading logs also count towards earning a special trip to see the Fort Wayne Tincaps baseball game this spring.  Keep reading!!

Snack Donations Still Needed

Thanks to everyone who sent things in this week.  It has been very helpful.  But we could still use your help. Animal crackers, cereal, pretzels, etc. make good snacks.  Thanks for your help.

School in Session on Feb. 20 for Snow Make-Up Day

Counting Money with Touch Points

We are continuing our work on counting money.  We’ve introduced counting quarters this week, as well as dimes, nickels and pennies.  One helpful shortcut I have been teaching the kids is to count touch points on the coins.  Each touch point counts 5, so the quarter has five touch points on it.  If kids use the touch points, then all they have to do is count by fives and they can count all the coins easily.  (For some, this is easier than counting by 25s, then counting by 10s then counting by 5s…)
